Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – February 4, 2025 – On January 31, 2025 in response to recent federal immigration actions across the country, local and state elected officials held a press conference to reaffirm their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents through fair and just policies.
PA Senator Sharif Street said, “Our priority is to uphold the law while treating all individuals with dignity and respect. We will not waver in our responsibility to protect all community members, regardless of their background.”
Local leaders, including Councilmember Rue Landau, echoed this sentiment, stressing that the city council’s primary role is to foster safe and inclusive communities. “These new directives are not merely headlines. They are lived nightmares. We are the City of Brotherly Love, Sisterly Affection, and Sibling Solidarity. We have a responsibility to protect and empower our communities, and that work begins with our collective commitment to justice.”
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner stated, “Philadelphia is a welcoming city, the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. It needs to stay that way. The District Attorney’s Office is charged with upholding the law and constitutions of the United States and Pennsylvania. Consistent with that charge, the DAO will protect all Philadelphia residents’ rights, freedoms, and safety. Philadelphians will not be bullied or victimized by illegal activity against our residents from any source.”
As national immigration policies evolve, elected officials stand resolute in upholding justice, fairness, and security for all.
