Saval will serve a third term as Democratic Chair of the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee and pick up new assignment as the only Philadelphia member of the Transportation Committee

Harrisburg, PA − January 14, 2025 − Today State Senator Nikil Saval (D–Philadelphia) announced his committee assignments for the 2025–2026 legislative session. Saval will serve a third term as Democratic Chair of the Senate’s Urban Affairs and Housing Committee and will join the Senate’s Transportation Committee, the only member to represent a district in Philadelphia.

“Our rights to housing and freedom of movement are intertwined. Pennsylvanians deserve to be able to travel safely to work, school, commerce, and community, just as they deserve to return to homes that are healthy. I’m honored to get to serve a third term as Democratic Chair of the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, and I’m thrilled for the chance to join the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

“Right now, skyrocketing costs threaten the ability of many of our neighbors to stay in their homes and communities in rural and urban areas alike, and in my region, our public transportation system narrowly avoided a funding shortfall that would have triggered its complete collapse. We need to fully fund SEPTA and transit systems throughout the Commonwealth, and we need to ensure all Pennsylvania residents have access to homes that are safe and that they can afford.”

Saval’s complete list of committee assignments is as follows:

  • Urban Affairs and Housing (Democratic Chair)
  • Environmental Resources and Energy
  • Judiciary
  • State Government
  • Transportation

In addition to his committee assignments, Saval will continue to Chair the Senate’s Philadelphia Delegation.
