Property Tax/Rent Rebate
Property Tax/Rent Rebate
On Thursday, February 15, Senator Saval hosted a telephone town hall on the historic expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. Our district has one of the highest costs of living in Pennsylvania, and many of our neighbors are cost-burdened by rent or property taxes, making this program crucial to offset some of these high expenses.
Last year, Pennsylvania’s General Assembly passed legislation to allow hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians across the state to take advantage of this program for the first time.
Under the expansion:
- The income cap for homeowners increased from $35,000 to $45,000.*
- The income cap for renters increased from $15,000 to $45,000.*
- The income cap is set to increase annually to keep pace with inflation.
* The program also continues to exclude one-half of Social Security income.
Pennsylvanians are eligible for this program if they are ages 65 and older, are widowed and ages 50 and older, or are living with disabilities and ages 18 and older—and meet the above income requirements.
Rebates will be distributed beginning July 1, as required by law. First-time filers should anticipate that it will take additional time to review their applications and process their rebates.
